Technical radar from ThoughtWorks, volume 27
You can find the full PDF here.
Interactive radar is here - https://www.thoughtworks.com/radar.
If you don’t know what tech radar is, i suggest you read their FAQ.
So, recently came up a new volume of tech radar from ThoughtWorks, and it has a lot of exciting stuff: Backstage is now recommended to Adopt for everyone. Recently, they also have their own conference - BackstageCon. Great to see how fast the project from Spotify is growing for the mass audience. Other OSS PaaS projects don’t succeed.
VictoriaMetrics is now in a Trial state. But for me, it’s on the same maturity level as Prometheus and probably more featureful than the last one.
Btw, is you don’t see the comparison between VM and mimir, it’s worth reading - https://victoriametrics.com/blog/mimir-benchmark/
I can’t tell a lot about js runtime but in tech radar new one called Bun. So if you know something about it, write in the comments.
One of the most interesting things from the platform section is Keptn - SRE platform where you can build complicated deployments which consider SLO as Quality Gate. I really want to see this thing in real life, cuz things like that always seem like some improved ci pipelines(github actions, e.g.).
That’s all for the platform section. And i’ll skip languages and frameworks - it looks dull.
Tools.
great_expectations is a tool for validating, documenting, and profiling your data. But i have a feeling it’s in Adopt section because of the lack of alternatives 😕
What can not be said about K6. If you haven’t tested it out, the time has come - it’s considered for adoption.
K6 is a load-testing tool from Grafana Labs. (Recently, they announced new awesome integrations with Tempo.)
And finally, the Techniques Adopt section.
It’s the first appearance of Path-to-production, and it’s ready to Adopt, it looks… kinda strange.
Team Cognitive Load is about minimizing (surprise) cognitive load for teams in an organization.
